Pentagon Releases Roswell Affidavit Describing Bodies
A sworn statement from the officer who announced the 1947 Roswell flying disc now sits in an official government release. According to the Department of War, its seventh release of UAP files went public on October 23, 2026, with 28 new PDF documents and no video, bringing the PURSUE archive to 478 files since May 8.
The Roswell statement appears in file D168, a Project Management Plan dated December 2, 2008, and written by Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies (BAASS). BAASS was the contractor the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) paid to run the Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications Program (AAWSAP).
Appendix 2 of that plan is the 2002 sealed affidavit of Walter Haut, the Roswell base public information officer who issued the flying disc press release. In it, Haut describes debris samples at a July 8, 1947 staff meeting that nobody could identify. He also describes a plan to divert attention from a second crash site north of town, and an egg-shaped craft he saw in Building 84 under heavy guard. Under a canvas tarpaulin he saw two bodies about the size of a 10-year-old child.

The plan around the affidavit is just as notable. According to the document, BAASS claimed it had a list of about ten people tied to programs that retrieved advanced aerospace hardware or associated biological material, and it asked the DIA to contact them. Recommendation nine works from the premise that biological material of possibly non-human origin had been recovered. It states the DIA would lobby for access to medical samples, naming the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, Army commands at Fort Detrick, and Dugway Proving Ground. The plan also sought files the contractor believed were kept out of Project Blue Book and stored at Los Alamos National Laboratory. It sought records on objects over nuclear-armed bases and funding to buy hardware believed to be in foreign hands. None of the released pages show what the DIA did with these requests.

The affidavit carries open questions. As reported by NewsNation, its text has been public since the 2007 book Witness to Roswell by Donald Schmitt and Tom Carey. Critics note that Haut did not write it himself, and that his earlier 1993 affidavit covers only the press release.
