Congressman Calls Missing UFO General Case Shady

There is more to the William Neil McCasland story, and the newest details about the retired general’s final days do not line up. On a recent episode of Crime Time, host Chris Cuomo spoke with reporter Lauren Conlin, who has been working through the cases of missing and deceased scientists and military personnel one at a time. Cuomo noting that while several of these cases have reasonable explanations, it is strange that so many people tied to high level aerospace research and government work have disappeared in ways that do not make sense.
According to Conlin, she filed records requests on the McCasland case and was denied, yet parts of his body camera footage and 911 calls surfaced soon after through a true crime outlet. On one recording, a woman who had dinner with the general the night before he disappeared said he still held the highest level of security clearances and was, in her words, in the UFO files. That account collides with a statement his wife, Susan, posted Facebook on March 6, which said he had been retired for 13 years and no longer held any of those clearances.
Conlin also referenced a claim that Congressman Eric Burlison’s office reached out to McCasland about UAP topics roughly two weeks before he went missing, and when she pressed for detail, a staffer would only say they had reached out to a lot of people.

She then connected McCasland to a second missing person, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory scientist Monica Reza, who vanished in 2025 while hiking in California’s Angeles National Forest. Her beanie was reportedly found on a more dangerous trail her family says she would never have used. Per Conlin’s reporting, Reza had patented a heat resistant metal and overlapped professionally with McCasland, who oversaw a large share of the projects in that field. She stayed careful overall, warning that some names on the list have ordinary explanations and that no single confirmed thread ties all eleven together, while also voicing frustration that the families get no real updates as the clicks pile up.
According to the June 9 press conference, Burlison named would be whistleblower Matthew Sullivan from the podium, saying his death deserves far more scrutiny than it has received. When a reporter asked David Grusch about it, Grusch confirmed he served on active duty with Sullivan and that Sullivan was on what he called the legacy program, but he declined to discuss details while a federal investigation remains open.
