Unidentified Object Crosses From Lebanon Into Israel and Remains Unexplained
An unidentified object crossed from Lebanon into northern Israel on Saturday night, setting off hostile aircraft sirens and a search that has turned up nothing. More than a day later, the Israel Defense Forces, the IDF, still have not told residents what it was.
The siren sounded at 7:57 p.m. in Arab al-Aramshe, a small village on the border fence with Lebanon. Israeli outlet Walla reported that a military source first described the concern as a drone, and a powered paraglider could not be ruled out. The army waited about four hours before releasing a statement. It confirmed only that lookouts had spotted an unidentified aerial object near the border, searches were continuing, and nothing unusual had been found.
Troops set up checkpoints and searched through the night. As reported by Ynet News, forces were sent to communities across the Western Galilee, and helicopters joined the search. According to JFeed, the search stretched as far as the coastal city of Nahariya. On i24NEWS, Israeli security analyst Yaakov Lappin stated that the Israeli Air Force scrambled fighter jets, although written reports only confirm helicopters. Searches resumed at first light on Sunday and again found nothing.

Security camera footage of the object began circulating online Sunday morning. Lappin described it as a very strange looking object that is not easily identifiable, and he expects it may stay unidentified. Ynet reported that the army is checking whether it was a type of drone Israel has not seen before, while other Hebrew outlets suggested a balloon or a bag carried by the wind.
Israeli military correspondent Noam Amir wrote that he finds it hard to believe the army does not know what the object was, and that people in the north deserve answers. Moshe Davidovich, head of the Mateh Asher Regional Council, asked the head of the IDF Northern Command for an immediate meeting with every council head along the border and called for a full, clear investigation. Similar alerts sounded in the Upper Galilee on September 2 and September 10, and the IDF later called both false targets. It has not done so this time.
