Germany’s UFO Reports Just Hit a Record High

Germany is logging UFO reports at a pace it has never recorded before. According to the country’s Central Research Network on Anomalous Celestial Phenomena, known as CENAP, its director told the RT News Agency that the organization is now receiving between three and six new UAP cases every single day. ENAP investigated close to 14,000 sighting reports in August of 2026 alone. Most of those cases, according to the director, are eventually traced back to aircraft, rocket boosters, satellites, meteors, weather balloons, or laser light shows, and the ones that stay open usually stay open because investigators never receive a high resolution video to work from.

That surge lines up with a separate and unresolved pattern that has been building over German airspace for close to two years. Since August of 2024, unidentified drones have appeared over some of the country’s most sensitive sites, including nuclear power plants, an LNG terminal, and chemical facilities near the North Sea coast, according to German officials. In May of 2024, a Eurofighter jet was damaged after colliding with an object while landing at a German Air Force base, and by January of 2025, nearly a dozen unidentified objects were tracked near that same base in a single night. In December of 2024, the United States military confirmed a wave of sightings over Ramstein Air Base. German investigators have pointed to Russia as a likely source in several of these cases, citing flight patterns over defense and energy infrastructure, though Russia has denied involvement, and no drone from any of these incidents has been captured or traced to a confirmed operator.

In response, the German cabinet approved an amendment to the country’s Aviation Security Act in November of 2025, and the Bundestag passed the final version in February of 2026. For the first time since the end of World War II, the law gives military and law enforcement direct authority to intercept and, if necessary, shoot down unidentified objects over German soil. Germany has also committed more than 100 million euros in counter drone spending for 2025 and 2026, according to reporting on the Bundestag’s approvals, along with roughly 490 million euros for a short range interceptor missile called DefendAir, which is not expected to reach production until 2029. Despite the new law and the funding already committed, no drone incursion over a German military base or airport has been publicly confirmed as intercepted.
